Our electric and electronic architecture
While most hardware goes through innovation periods of four to six years, software follows much shorter cycles, from one year down to just weeks. That’s why their separation is the key to the car of tomorrow. It allows us always to apply the newest software to several hardware platforms – enabling updates, function expansions and additional services throughout the vehicle’s entire life cycle.
Maximizing performance is all about reducing complexity. Our hardware such as sensors and actuators is grouped in zones and linked to control units via high-speed data connections. Just three computing modules host all the software and are responsible for vehicle operation, body, motion, and energy; for networking, communication, and security; and for connectivity.
